this has nothing to do with enchiladas or tambourines

I've been nominated to be in the Creative Home Arts Club. I'm pretty sure it's something prestigious because they sent me a free magnet AND 10 page notepad. And I got to scratch off one of those "let's see what prizes you've won" things, which usually accompany any mail of importance.

(Except that I'm also pretty sure this is a club for old women. The insert was covered in over sized fonts and cheesy clipart.)

Catch is: you have to pay a monthly membership fee and send reports on all the products they've given you to review. Yeah, that free magnet isn't sounding so awesome anymore, is it?

One of my pet peeves is when manufacturers put coupons and things INSIDE of food packages. (Another pet peeve is when my rugs are crooked - but I just straightened them before sitting down to blog, so we don't need to talk about that.)

I just pulled some trading cards out of a package of sliced ham. There they were, all snuggled up next to the slimy lunch meat. Of course they were in their own 'protective sleeve' but who really likes opening a couple of crappy trading cards when they're packaged in meat goo?

I used to eat a lot of Rice-a-roni when I was in high school. I would get the butter melting before adding the rice. So I was practically helpless when the naked coupon would come tumbling out of the box right into a pan full of melted butter. I did a lot of coupon fishing on those days. Good thing Rice-a-roni stopped putting coupons in their boxes, because I doubt I'd ever learn my lesson to check for the paper first.

One of my other pet peeves is when cupboards or drawers are left slightly ajar (or wide open.) It's so annoying. Just close the stupid drawer, how hard is it? And don't even think about leaving the bathroom closet door cracked, because you know I'm just going to be imagining the creepy psycho stalker killer hiding in there in an attempt to catch me off guard when I expected him to wait for me behind the shower curtain.

I have been invited to so many "garden clubs" and the like. Do people honestly pay to give them reviews?

Although the 10 page notepad has come in handy. . .

Ooh-I do not like open drawers or closets either! Everything looks so much more clean when it's closed.

And the worst is the prizes in cereal boxes---they're stuffed clear at the bottom so you have to dump out the whole box before you get your toy!

Open cabinet doors and drawers drive me crazy too, to the point that I spend a lot of time wondering why I just dont' close them? A mystery, to be sure.

At least you don't have to fight with Kathy anymore about the correct way to hang a roll of tollette paper=).

Hi. My name is Jen, and I have a problem closing cupboard doors. It doesn't help that some of mine won't stay shut and swing back open no matter what you do.

I would also like to say that although I don't close them myself (why, I have no idea - it's possibly something like your inability to check the box) I agree it looks MUCH nicer when they're closed. Maybe if I could join some support group somewhere that would help...

I am an artist.

I really am. But not one of those deeply moving, "what do you mean you don't understand my painting, it's BLUE" kind of artists.  I'm more like one of those "oh hey, a pen and a napkin, doodle doodle doodle" kind of artists.  Because I do it for fun.  And yeah, for money.  But still.  Fun....most of the time. But I feel like branching into new mediums.  Do you know how long it's been since I painted?  Like with something other than finger paints or the kids' water colors where all the colors are mixed so they just come out brown anyway? It's been awhile.  I've been itching to paint for months. I've also wanted to let Monkey loose on a canvas for awhile.  He's not like my other kids (who all carry mine and Husband's arty genes) who like to draw endless pictures of unicorns, princesses, transformers or dinosaurs.  Monkey likes to feel his art.  He'll probably end up being one of those deeply moving types.  And I'...

I won't be offended if you answer NO to the question at the end of this post

So this post will probably lose me a lot of respect and friends and possibly even a few phone calls to the Health and Welfare department. But I just feel like posting it, it's kind of like saying it outloud, but without having to watch someone's face react to the horror. And today, I really feel the need to say it outloud. So if you read this and don't feel like being friends anymore, I get it. With everyone's kids going back to school (and our school district being the last to start in the entire world, so I'm still sitting here dealing with summer child overload) I keep reading the posts about how mothers are sad to see their kids go, and how much they're going to miss them, and how much they absolutely love motherhood. Want me to tell you what I think about motherhood? I hate it. There are times when I hate it more than any other thing on the planet. And there goes most of my friends. But I'm sorry. I do. I hate being a mother. I don't hate my c...

dream home

I don't really want a 'dream home'. I don't want to settle down in one house to raise my kids and then grandkids and then great-grandkids. I don't want to be trapped within the confines of the same exact walls from this moment until the day I die. The whole idea sounds like torture. Sometimes my house feels like a prison. (Although, I think it may have something to do with the little wardens that keep me from leaving at my leisure.) And once I've lived in one place long enough I just get really really bored. We've been married for 8 years and moved 7 times. I always hate the moving part, but I do like being somewhere new. And the house we're in right now is actually perfect for us. Just the size we need, great neighbors, close to the school, blah blah blah. The only thing is that we're renting and I can't paint the walls. I like painting walls. But for the most part, I really like living here. Granted, we've only lived here for seve...
