GIVEAWAY (of the photo Christmas card variety)

I think I just creeped out my four year old.

I pulled out the, "You'd better go to bed because Santa's Elves are watching you to make sure you're being good!" routine.

His eyes got big, and round, and scared. And he said, "Why would they do that?!"

Also, our church building burned down yesterday.

No wait, it didn't. But the alarm went off, and the entire ward just sat there in the chapel (and gym, because we have an enormous ward.) I sat there too. I don't know what everyone else was thinking, but the thought going through my head was, "Can somebody please get that alarm turned off, it is WAY TOO LOUD!!!!" Seriously, I think our ward is now 37% deafer after that.

Oh, and there was no actual fire.

And the first fire truck to show up was driven by one of our ward members who was on duty that day.

Good times.

And now, that GIVEAWAY:

For procrastinators everywhere (that would include me) I'm giving away one free photo Christmas card design. Just email me your high resolution family photo(s) and I'll mail you back a 4x6 and 5x7 file of the card design of your choice.

You can see all of my designs in better detail in my etsy shop.

Just leave me a wittingly hilarious comment and you're entered. Or blog about it, leave me the link in a comment and get entered 3 times (this is for either a-the nonwitty comment leaver, or b-the blogger who has too much wittiness to be contained in one comment alone.)

I'll be drawing a winner next monday (dec 7th) at 7:00 PM (MST.)

And speaking of giveaways, we're having a couple really great ones at Green Jello with Carrots right now. You can win a $5 gift certificate this week, or enter to win our big $25 give away at the end of December!

You don't have to enter me in the contest, I just wanted to tell you that our church really did burn down right before we moved here. Kind of crazy.

You DO have to enter me into the contest. I was just looking at Christmas cards yesterday, trying to decide which I'd choose. My only concern is that I have kind of a crappy printer, but would it still work if I got picture paper to print them on?

Not sure if this is witty enough......may quite possibly blog about it.....

I just really like that the whole ward sat there...not moving. What if it had been a real fire?! Hmm? :)

I don't do witty on demand. Actually, I don't do witty pretty much EVER.

Can I be entered anyway?

Also - our fire alarm went off a couple weeks ago. During the Primary program. Good times!

I wanted to enter before, but my problem is that we haven't taken a family picture yet. Lame. Okay, I ENTER! I will commit to taking one or figuring something out if I win. Thank you for holding this awesome contest!

I was going to design my own, since we're getting our family picture taken this Saturday... and won't get them back for a few days. But I really like your designs. They are really cute. Glad I stopped by your blog.

OK--get this. I planned on taking the year off from cards, and so made NO plans to make them. Just the other day (was it Monday??) my husband says, "So....we've gotta get those Christmas cards out soon." I said I wasn't planning on sending them out. He says we have to. Help!

If the alarm went off in my building (preferrably THIS SUNDAY in SACRAMENT) I'd be all, " Ya'll can sit there getting deaf if you want but I'm outta here! PEACE OUT! Oh and that means the RS lesson I'm supposed to teach is cancelled. Latah skatahs!"

Yup, I'd say that.
Ok enter me. Maybe then I'd get some pics taken!

I'd love to get a Christmas card design, especially since I spent an hour and a half trying to add text to a template on Sam's Club and then gave up. I'm starting from scratch.

(p.s. I've never visited before, but was referred by Wonder Woman. I'll subscribe and see if we become soul-mates or something. Don't worry, I mostly kidding. Kind of.)

I would have stood up and screamed "The spirit of God like a FIRE is burning! Run for your lives!"

If I get free Cmas cards, it will force me to actually get my card sending buns in gear. No guilt, no, no. But if I don't win your contest, I'm not sending out cards. How's that for threatening wit? Okay, I stink at both, but I still want in for your contest.

I got sent to the principal's office the other day for the first time in my life. I'm 42 and it wasn't to get an award. How's that for witty?

You are funny and brilliant and mostly entertaining. I LOOOOOVE to hear about you and everything that you think is so so right, and holy cow I can totally see what you mean, because man are you brilliant.

(Is that witty? It was in my head)

I haven't actually read on your blog any further yet, but I look forward to it, and if we had Thanksgiving in Australia (and it wasn't already over), I would totally give thanks for Google Reader for leading me to you (through Regarding Annie).

Just found your blog today (through Regarding Annie) ....you are funny...and enlightening! I have never done picture Christmas cards....and I have been thinking about it but I know once I start I won't feel like I can ever miss a year. Ahh well when I win I guess that will decide it for me! Smiles!
Ok ok, geez get off my back already, I'm commenting.

(My comment isn't especially witty but since my current best one liner is the ancient chinese proverb that I blogged a few days ago... well, this will have to do.)

dream home

I don't really want a 'dream home'. I don't want to settle down in one house to raise my kids and then grandkids and then great-grandkids. I don't want to be trapped within the confines of the same exact walls from this moment until the day I die. The whole idea sounds like torture. Sometimes my house feels like a prison. (Although, I think it may have something to do with the little wardens that keep me from leaving at my leisure.) And once I've lived in one place long enough I just get really really bored. We've been married for 8 years and moved 7 times. I always hate the moving part, but I do like being somewhere new. And the house we're in right now is actually perfect for us. Just the size we need, great neighbors, close to the school, blah blah blah. The only thing is that we're renting and I can't paint the walls. I like painting walls. But for the most part, I really like living here. Granted, we've only lived here for seve...

hair loss and mourning

I like Monkey's hair long.  I tried to grow out Opie's hair when he was younger, but he has always had a tremendously large head, and he also has very thick wavy hair.  You pair those two together, throw in some long locks, and you've got yourself a genuinely bonified giant-head child.  So I've learned my lesson: keep Opie's hair short. But Monkey's hair?  It's so soft, and straight (our only straight-haired child) and super super cute when it's long.  SUPER CUTE.  (Agree with me - it's my blog.)  But not many people liked the whole long hair thing.  I kept having to threaten various family members with things like, "If I come back to find him with short hair I will DISOWN you, run away with my kids and you will never hear from us again.  EVER."  (Husband was particularly sensitive to this threat.) However, I did say that once random strangers started referring to him as a girl, I would consider cutting it.  And even though ...
