need your help

My brother in-law and his wife were expecting twins at the end of December. Instead her water broke around 2 AM yesterday.

The babies are very early, and very tiny, and we are all very very worried.

Both babies were life flighted to a hospital with a NICU which is about an hour's drive from my bro & sis-in law's house. She hasn't been able to visit them yet because she had to deliver the second baby via emergency c-section and is still in the hospital in their home town.

1 pound 10 ounces, 13 inches

Lukas - Sept 15, 2009 2:26am
1 pound 10 ounces, 14 inches

I am asking for you help in two ways. First of all, please pray for them. All of them. It's going to be a very scary couple of days/weeks/months.

Secondly, I have set up a donation fund for them, considering the exorbitant hospital bills they'll have, plus the cost of driving and staying in town to visit the babies, and all the other extra costs associated with situations like this. My bro-in-law is a student and his wife will no longer be working, since she is so obviously needed elsewhere.

If you could please give what you can, and spread the word of their need. I have a made a button if you want to add one to your blog. This is the first time I've tried to do one of those get the code box thingies, so I hope it works:

Thanks to everyone who can help! I'll give updates on the babies when I can, right now we are just waiting and praying.

Are they around my area? Do they need a place to stay or anything?

I don't know what area the babies will be in, but when my little sister was in Primary Children's in Salt Lake City for 3 weeks, (2 hours away from my parent's house) my mom was able to stay at The Ronald McDonald House which is right down the street. The charity is set up specifically to keep families close to their hospital-bound loved ones. It was about 4 years ago, but they only charged $10/night PLUS free donated meals for anyone staying there (good food, too, donated from restaurants). It was amazing and definitely made it possible and affordable for my mom to stay with my sister even though they were far from home. I'm sure they have Ronald McDonald Charity Houses in all major cities. My prayers will be with them at this critical time.

Im so sorry to hear of this! Having had my own preemie, I can attest to the fact that the impacts of prematurity linger for years. Were they..what 25 weekers? They look about like that. Suggest a preemie support group in their hospital once she is out of her hospital. They can be so helpful because the general public just thinks of them as tiny full termers when in fact the years of therapy and specialists can be so daunting. She'll need people around her that "get it" and can offer helpful advice.

Prayers going up for the babies and for her.

Oh dear. I've got your button in my sidebar. That's a very good button. Very good. I'll be talking to Greg about making a donation, too.

I found you through Lisa's blog, and my heart is bleeding for them. My own daughter is celebrating her 16th birthday today, and she began her life in a NICU, so I have very tender feelings for your family. We will definitely pray for them and donate what we can!

Hi - My sister sent me to your blog and I LOVE IT!

I do want to say that I had twin preemies myself and I know this time is hard for your family. NICU time is a rough roller coaster ride, but it's necessary and important for those babies! Please tell them my thoughts and prayers are with them. I know the comfort of our Savior will be a strength to them through this. It was for me. On a more "physical" note, please tell them that the most important thing they can do is keep their hands clean and make sure anyone who comes to visit washes and washes and washes their hands. I can't stress it enough.

But in a year, they will look back on this time and think, "Look how tiny they were! But look how HUGE they are now!!!" Best of luck! My heart is with them.

Those preemies.......anxious little boogers.......they just can't wait to get here!

I am an artist.

I really am. But not one of those deeply moving, "what do you mean you don't understand my painting, it's BLUE" kind of artists.  I'm more like one of those "oh hey, a pen and a napkin, doodle doodle doodle" kind of artists.  Because I do it for fun.  And yeah, for money.  But still.  Fun....most of the time. But I feel like branching into new mediums.  Do you know how long it's been since I painted?  Like with something other than finger paints or the kids' water colors where all the colors are mixed so they just come out brown anyway? It's been awhile.  I've been itching to paint for months. I've also wanted to let Monkey loose on a canvas for awhile.  He's not like my other kids (who all carry mine and Husband's arty genes) who like to draw endless pictures of unicorns, princesses, transformers or dinosaurs.  Monkey likes to feel his art.  He'll probably end up being one of those deeply moving types.  And I'

I won't be offended if you answer NO to the question at the end of this post

So this post will probably lose me a lot of respect and friends and possibly even a few phone calls to the Health and Welfare department. But I just feel like posting it, it's kind of like saying it outloud, but without having to watch someone's face react to the horror. And today, I really feel the need to say it outloud. So if you read this and don't feel like being friends anymore, I get it. With everyone's kids going back to school (and our school district being the last to start in the entire world, so I'm still sitting here dealing with summer child overload) I keep reading the posts about how mothers are sad to see their kids go, and how much they're going to miss them, and how much they absolutely love motherhood. Want me to tell you what I think about motherhood? I hate it. There are times when I hate it more than any other thing on the planet. And there goes most of my friends. But I'm sorry. I do. I hate being a mother. I don't hate my c

I'm not fat, my scale just hates me.

That's what it is. It's probably an evil scale anyway.  Always lying to me.  Telling me I'm fat. The worst part about it is that the scale has also convinced all the mirrors in my house to play along.  And I know it got my pant size on board ages ago.  It's also managed to get the camera to cooperate, even though I treat that camera like one of my dear precious children.  And this evil, hateful scale has attached a big mound of blubber right on my midsection. Well guess what scale - I hate you too. ***************************************************** I think showers are a waste of time. You get in just to get all wet, emerge dripping, get a nice clean towel wet, redress yourself, figure out something to do with your crazy 'just got wet and now it's going to dry ultra fuzzy, don't even think about using a blowdryer' hair, and put on all the makeup that you just washed off even though your mascara could probably have passed for a whole extra d
