I saw a ghost today.

In a moment of indulgence I watched the latest Ghost Hunters episode on Hulu while I ate lunch today.

I love Ghost Hunters.  (Except for the team changes on GHI - to that I say "BOOOO" and also "BRING BACK ROBB!!")

I'm convinced there are ghosts living in our very house.  (Well, ok, not LIVING, obviously.  Since ghosts are dead people.  But you know what I mean.)

You know when you see something move out of the corner of your eye, but when you look nothing is there?  I do that all. of. the. time.

At least 10 times an hour.

Of course, I'm not convinced that every time I do this I'm "seeing" a ghost.  I have totally screwed up eyeballs.  I know this.  Especially when it comes to things like peripheral vision and shadows and stuff.

So probably there are no ghost living in our house.

But I'm still going to check for them.

Because I'd like to think we have a house that all friendly, and potentially helpful (like the kind that make dinner for you), ghosts feel comfortable hanging out in.  It's important to me.

So anyways.

Today at lunch,

Watching Ghost Hunters.

At the computer desk.

Wearing my awesome pink headphones with the stars on them.  (They really are awesome.)

And as Jason and Grant are investigating a light anomaly in the lobby of this huge hotel I sense some movement out of the corner of my eye.

So I swing the chair around reeeeally fast to see what it is. Expecting nothing.  Like usual.

But instead there's an apparition standing RIGHT THERE.  It was totally solid and spooky and shaped just like a little boy.

In fact it was a little boy.

My little boy, Opie.  Who had snuck up beside me because he knew he wasn't allowed out of his room until it was clean.

Except my brain had to take all of this in really fast and it kind of got stuck on the part about an apparition standing RIGHT THERE.

And so I totally freaked out my 6 year old when he saw me turn to him at the rate of a sugar-highed-spazz and  look at him with my face most likely resembling this:

Maybe I'm not so open to the idea of ghost living in our house after all.

Yeah, maybe no ghosts living there, but hopefully you can come to terms with the fact that children, aka apparitions, do. :)

Thanks for the laugh (especially about the making dinner ghosts). And do you remember like 2 years ago Sue blogged about being up at the computer in the middle of the night and her little girl scaring her TO DEATH when she looked up and saw her standing there? Yeah. You're not the first person to be freaked out by their own kid. But Sue has regular eyes and wasn't watching Ghost Hunters so... (that "..." means I have nothing else to say and not "obviously XYandZ")

Ha-I thought you were gonna say it was the ghost of the little boy that is waiting to come to your family:)

I'm sure your kid now believes in ghosts!

I actually think I'd be okay with ghosts living in my house - as long as they cleaned the bathrooms once a week. and maybe cooked a few meals...
I love the change at GHI. I really didn't like Robb, but oh well, to each his own. Heck I want Brian and Dustin back on GH!
I love the way you write Melissa, it cheers me up!
As a side note, I felt a presence last night. The cat was looking at something the my hair stood up and I got all weird feeling.
Ha, maybe it is because I am forty and it was gas, who knows!
I believe that a ghost does not live in our house. I believe that a ghost will never live in our house. But I believe a ghost will live in someone else's house. I believe in ghosts for other people--just not for us.

child ghosts are the scariest! No wonder your face looked like that till you realized it was your own kid! mine would too!

When I youngish kid would come in and wake me up in the middle of the night I'd jump so fast that it would scare THEM. Then they learned to stand at my door calling my name (MOM) as they approached so it wasn't such a shock to me (and them when I gasped and jerked around. ha ha)

Had to tell you my story. So, when we were living in an apartment and just had our oldest, I got up one night to feed her. I took her in the living room and sat down on the couch and the stereo just came blazing on. FREAKED. ME. OUT. I came to my senses, and figured I had just sat on the remote. LOoked around and saw it halfway across the room.

which freaked me out even further.

Never quite figured that one out.

GIVEAWAY (of the photo Christmas card variety)

I think I just creeped out my four year old. I pulled out the, "You'd better go to bed because Santa's Elves are watching you to make sure you're being good!" routine. His eyes got big, and round, and scared. And he said, "Why would they do that?!" Also, our church building burned down yesterday. No wait, it didn't. But the alarm went off, and the entire ward just sat there in the chapel (and gym, because we have an enormous ward.) I sat there too. I don't know what everyone else was thinking, but the thought going through my head was, "Can somebody please get that alarm turned off, it is WAY TOO LOUD!!!!" Seriously, I think our ward is now 37% deafer after that. Oh, and there was no actual fire. And the first fire truck to show up was driven by one of our ward members who was on duty that day. Good times. And now, that GIVEAWAY: For procrastinators everywhere (that would include me) I'm giving away one free photo Christmas card d

snow day

Yesterday was a "snow day".  As in, it snowed 6+ inches overnight so the school district called all the parents at 5:00 AM with a recorded message in Spanish telling them the schools were closed. Yes, I said AT 5:00 AM.  IN SPANISH.  I'm pretty sure we still speak English in the U.S. even if it's well before dawn.  I didn't answer my phone so my voicemail recorded it all, it was a pretty long message for such a short topic.  I mean, they could have just said, "SNOW DAY!" and all the parents would be like, "OK!"  And then we could all get back to our sleeping.  But no.  Long Spanish message.  (At 5 AM.) A few minutes after hearing the phone go off I checked the message just in case someone had died or something (since that's pretty much the only time someone SHOULD call me that early).  I had no idea what the message said in my half-asleep state, but I coudln't go back to sleep so finally I woke up for real and listened again.  I h
