my rusty flow of life pipe is drowning me

Sometimes I feel like this:

And then I have to draw it in my notebook instead of getting actual stuff done.  And then I have to blog about it, and then explain it for you.  (Instead of getting actual stuff done.)

So that's a picture of me.  You can tell by the bad clothes and ponytails.  And I'm standing in a bricked up box.  Because in this picture, that's what it is.

And then there's a pipe that goes through the box, and regular daily life flows through it.  It's like a stream of time and chores and work and kids and dinner and all that other stuff that makes up life.  But my pipe is rusty and doesn't hold life very well, so it constantly leaks.

And then my box fills up with too much regular life. And instead of working on a drain, I just stand there in a daze.

Sometimes I feel like my box is totally full of water and I'm doggy paddling near the top sucking in that last little bit of air with just my lips sticking out of the water.  But I've been trying to cut back on stress lately.  That helps a little.

But still my box is watery.  Just full enough to be thinking, "Can't I just go back to bed?" and also, "Will my underwear ever be dry?!"

And also, there are little piranha type fishes in there, because sometimes it's not enough to be stuck in a bricked up box of slowly filling life water.  Sometimes the universe has to gnaw on you a little.  Because life is mean like that.

You know those really organized and happy people that seem so content and in control at all times?  If they were in bricked up boxes they would probably have their pipes in proper working order.  And their boxes would probably be super comfortable and dry.  And they'd probably be throwing Bunco parties and baking cheesecake in them.

Meanwhile, I'm just over here going, "Today was a success because I didn't drown."

Does anyone else feel like this?

I use to, ALL THE TIME, I took a jack hammer to the box, powdered the bricks... I'm not advocating my method I'm just saying I get it!

Um yes. Yes I do. My life seems to go that just when I think I get that pipe fixed all the way and the drain cleared, the pipe bursts open and my mantra once again becomes: don't drown. Don't drown.

We should hang out. We really should.

Oh My Gosh Yes! Things are as good as I can expect when I don't drown and my kids are still alive. I always wanted to be a good mom, but usually I'm just proud of myself for not killing my kids.

I can be proud of that, right?
Yep....I think that's about right. Especially as mommies :-)

My guess is the organized, happy people probably feel the same way...but for some reason they hide it--whether they hide it better or the rest of us would rather just be us, I don't know--but I think everyone feels like that.

Yes. I almost died of that syndrome while my husband was doing school last year. Slowly I seem to be returning to the world of the living, now, though. May you have a glittering happy day sometime soon!

GIVEAWAY (of the photo Christmas card variety)

I think I just creeped out my four year old. I pulled out the, "You'd better go to bed because Santa's Elves are watching you to make sure you're being good!" routine. His eyes got big, and round, and scared. And he said, "Why would they do that?!" Also, our church building burned down yesterday. No wait, it didn't. But the alarm went off, and the entire ward just sat there in the chapel (and gym, because we have an enormous ward.) I sat there too. I don't know what everyone else was thinking, but the thought going through my head was, "Can somebody please get that alarm turned off, it is WAY TOO LOUD!!!!" Seriously, I think our ward is now 37% deafer after that. Oh, and there was no actual fire. And the first fire truck to show up was driven by one of our ward members who was on duty that day. Good times. And now, that GIVEAWAY: For procrastinators everywhere (that would include me) I'm giving away one free photo Christmas card d

little pieces of my heart will be for sale at D.I.

I have this thing about my kids clothes. The thing is, I LIKE BUYING THEM CLOTHES. I get in trouble frequently for this. It's just that the old ones get so boring after awhile. And I hate it when the really cheap clothes look like poop after washing them a couple of times. Luckily, I live in a city that has outlet stores. I love outlet stores (and Ebay!) Alot of the time you can find higher quality clothes for Walmart prices so how could I NOT buy them? It would be like wasting money for me NOT to get a couple $4 shirts at OshKosh. Right? RIGHT?!! The problem is - we have tiny closets. Miniature, puny, ridiculous, TINY closets. The other problem is - I have saved EVERYTHING. Not only are the kids' closets chuck full of stuff, but we have multiple rubbermaid bins in our garage full of baby clothes they've all grown out of. Also, we may not be having any more children. And I say "may not" because if I say "for sure not" someone will have to co
