if we were all cows

We spent the weekend with my in-laws.

On the way home we drove past a field of cows munching on weeds. All of them were in a group in the center of the field. Except for the loner cow, munching all by herself far off from the cow herd.

Husband says, "Hey look - it's you in the cow world."

Ok.

Apparently I don't get along well with other cows.

And if you ask my in-laws, they'd probably agree.

Aw...the other cows were probably a bunch o' gossiping ol' "my milk is better than YOUR milk" type of cows. I'd be off by myself too!
Okay...I found your blog through Mormon Mommy Blogs...and I'm so glad I did!!

You're so witty, snarky and fun...everything I love in a blogger!

You should have just left your husband by himself in the cow field after that comment:)

Does he not know how many friends you have in the blog world?!
This conversation is unfair after a week with the in-laws. Try again after a week with your family.

awe, that's so sad I think i would have punched my husband out if he said that to, me. nothing like stating the hurtful. Then I would have said, I guess I must have grown some b#@$# and turned into a bull.

I'm sure you've been wondering where I've been...

I've been off by myself, chewing my cud...

Wanna join me?

Nah - all the other cows weren't eating weeds - they were smoking weed. You were merely taking the moral high ground and "just saying no" and distancing yourself from the group. Well done you. Cos after a week with the in-laws, I would've been right in there puffing my lungs out.

Well gals, this is the mama-in-law. And yes, after a weekend with me, even I need a break! But seriously, my #1 daughter-in-law is truly the most talented, creative, patient, and amazing girl around; not to mention that she pops out the most gorgeous babies!

I have so much trouble with my in-laws. You'd think after 25 years I'd figure it out. But no, I'm the lone cow.
Come stand by me!

hair loss and mourning

I like Monkey's hair long.  I tried to grow out Opie's hair when he was younger, but he has always had a tremendously large head, and he also has very thick wavy hair.  You pair those two together, throw in some long locks, and you've got yourself a genuinely bonified giant-head child.  So I've learned my lesson: keep Opie's hair short. But Monkey's hair?  It's so soft, and straight (our only straight-haired child) and super super cute when it's long.  SUPER CUTE.  (Agree with me - it's my blog.)  But not many people liked the whole long hair thing.  I kept having to threaten various family members with things like, "If I come back to find him with short hair I will DISOWN you, run away with my kids and you will never hear from us again.  EVER."  (Husband was particularly sensitive to this threat.) However, I did say that once random strangers started referring to him as a girl, I would consider cutting it.  And even though ...

GIVEAWAY (of the photo Christmas card variety)

I think I just creeped out my four year old. I pulled out the, "You'd better go to bed because Santa's Elves are watching you to make sure you're being good!" routine. His eyes got big, and round, and scared. And he said, "Why would they do that?!" Also, our church building burned down yesterday. No wait, it didn't. But the alarm went off, and the entire ward just sat there in the chapel (and gym, because we have an enormous ward.) I sat there too. I don't know what everyone else was thinking, but the thought going through my head was, "Can somebody please get that alarm turned off, it is WAY TOO LOUD!!!!" Seriously, I think our ward is now 37% deafer after that. Oh, and there was no actual fire. And the first fire truck to show up was driven by one of our ward members who was on duty that day. Good times. And now, that GIVEAWAY: For procrastinators everywhere (that would include me) I'm giving away one free photo Christmas card d...
